San Mao’s Ancestral Home

Xiaosha Town in Dinghai District is a treasure trove of cultural relics and historical sites. Prominent among these is the ancestral home of the renowned female writer San Mao, situated in Chenjia Village. Constructed in 1921 by San Mao’s grandfather, Mr. Chen Zongxu, this heritage site is particularly well-known.

The ancestral home has been thoughtfully transformed into the San Mao Memorial Room, which is divided into five main sections, each with a distinct theme. These themes include ‘A Life Full of Legendary Stories’, ‘San Mao’s Works that Charmed the World’, ‘Traveling Through Mountains and Rivers’, ‘Family, Love, Friendship, and Hometown Feelings’, and ‘Missing You! San Mao’. The exhibition halls within the memorial room are filled with a wealth of artifacts, including San Mao’s personal relics, various editions of her works, photographs from different periods of her life, and articles written by individuals from both China and abroad who remember her fondly.

The exhibits on display are not only precious but also deeply evocative, reflecting San Mao’s profound attachment to her hometown and her patriotic sentiments. The San Mao Memorial Room is open to visitors from 08:00 to 16:30 every day of the year, allowing enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the life and legacy of this influential writer.
