Embarking on a journey from the temple to explore the splendors of ‘Western Heaven’, one must pass through the Western Heaven Gate. The Western Heaven Gate is a natural stone arch formed by three massive stones, narrow enough to allow only one person to pass through while bending over. Above, the horizontal stone is inscribed with ‘Western Paradise Realm’, and the vertical stone bears ‘Path of Enlightenment’. ‘Bodhi’, a term from Sanskrit, signifies ‘awakening’. From here, one can ascend to the summit of Damo Peak. The site is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
