Yuelao, revered as the Chinese deity of marriage and affectionately known as the Matchmaker God, is a beloved figure in Chinese folklore. The legend of Yuelao has inspired the construction of the Yuelao Pavilion, a testament to this ancient tale.
Nestled to the southwest of the Xiyin Zen Temple, the Yuelao Pavilion is a masterpiece of Suzhou classical garden architecture. Its design captures the essence of traditional Chinese aesthetics.
The central courtyard of the pavilion is a quintessential example of Jiangnan residential style, featuring left and right wing rooms that serve as preparation areas for the bride and groom before the wedding ceremony.
Directly in front of the courtyard, five rooms are dedicated to hosting wedding celebrations, ensuring a festive and joyous atmosphere.
At the heart of the Yuelao Pavilion lies its main hall, where a majestic jade sculpture of Yuelao stands proudly in the center. This central figure is accompanied by the Qilin sending children and the Qilin offering treasures, both of which are significant symbols in Chinese culture.
Holding a marriage ceremony at the Yuelao Pavilion, with Yuelao as the witness, is believed to signify a predestined and everlasting marriage, a lifelong commitment, and a heartfelt wish for happiness that endures through time.
Please note that the opening hours and business status of the Yuelao Pavilion are subject to the actual situation on the day of your visit.
