Yaoshi Temple is located 6 kilometers from the urban area of Shangyu, Shaoxing City (the hometown of Yingtai, Zhu Family Village). In the first year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1628), the founding patriarch, Chaochen Master, arrived here on foot. He lodged under a tree overnight and dreamt of the Medicine Buddha who came to this mountain to help all beings avoid disasters, eliminate calamities, and extend life. In the dream, Chaochen Master worshipped devoutly and heard the teachings of the Buddha who advocated saving manpower and resources. Upon waking, he suddenly saw a huge reclining Buddha beside him, which upon closer inspection turned into a mountain (the reclining Buddha is still clearly visible in the morning and evening). After realizing the significance of his dream, Chaochen Master began to cultivate and manage this place, acquiring 5 acres of land, initially building a thatched cottage, and later constructing a temple named ‘Yaoshi Temple’.
