‘Above Moss’: Liu Guofu’s Works on Paper Exhibition in Hong Kong, China

The 3812 Gallery will present ‘Above Moss: Liu Guofu’s Works on Paper Exhibition’ from September 23 to November 29. This is also the artist’s first exhibition of works on paper at the 3812 Gallery. It fully presents 26 works on paper created between 2016 and 2024, continuing and expanding on his previous classic canvas oil painting creations exhibited in this gallery. This exhibition is all-encompassing and showcases Liu Guofu’s superb skills on three types of paper: oil on copperplate paper, oil pastel works on watercolor paper, and ink creations on rice paper. The exhibition title ‘Above Moss’ is derived from the poem ‘Deer Enclosure’ by the Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei (699 – 759). The last line of the poem, ‘Again shines on the moss above’, echoes the rhythm and lyricism of light and shadow in Liu Guofu’s works. This poem depicts in the evening when the setting sun passes through the secluded forest and sprinkles its afterglow on the moss. The faint whispers can be heard but are hard to trace. It finally ends with an ethereal scene of a touch of dusk afterglow sprinkled on the moss, evoking people’s feelings of peaceful vitality.

Opening hours: From September 23 to November 29, Monday to Friday, 11:00 – 19:00. The performance time and duration are subject to the site.
