Ancient Architectures of Ming and Qing Dynasties

The ancient architectures of Ming and Qing Dynasties feature Lingnan architectural characteristics. Most of them are in the style of hard mountain roofs, blue brick walls, and granite wall cornerstones. They are typical local residential buildings with three rooms and two corridors. The ancient buildings face south and north. Between the large houses are the winding and tortuous Qingyun alleys. The alleys are raised by steps, implying ‘rising step by step’. The layout of low-rise and high-density building groups can better improve the wind resistance and fire prevention capabilities.
