Ancient Wudang Mountain is located on the northwest side of Wu’an City, Handan, approximately 70 kilometers away from the urban area of Handan by car. It is a historically renowned Taoist mountain. A Tang Dynasty stele inscribed with ‘Ancient Wudang Mountain’ was discovered at the summit, confirming its identity as the historically famous Northern Wudang Mountain sought by Taoists in China, and a significant Taoist site.
Visiting Ancient Wudang Mountain today primarily involves hiking for scenic views and visiting numerous Taoist temples scattered throughout the mountain. The mountain’s terrain is steep and unique, with streams, ponds, and many large rocks and cliffs, making it quite beautiful. Taoist temples are mainly distributed at the base and summit of the mountain, with early constructions dating back to the Tang Dynasty and significant expansions during the Ming Dynasty, making it an excellent place for historical visits and worship.

There are two ways to explore Ancient Wudang Mountain: one is to hike the entire way, which takes about 4-5 hours, with a 1.5-hour one-way hike to visit scenic spots such as Sanfeng Bridge, Sanfeng City, Wudang Tianchi, and Mother Cave in the mountains, before reaching the summit to explore Jin Ding Ancient Temple, Motian Bridge, Yu Huang Pavilion, and Peach Blossom Peak, among others, which are mostly Taoist temples and shrines. Motian Bridge is particularly unique as it is a suspension bridge hanging between two peaks, offering a thrilling experience when crossed.
