Anshan Academy: Built during the Ming Wanli period, Anshan Academy has a history of over 400 years. It is named after its location on the gentle slope of Ma’anshan in the south of Changlian Village. The academy is a three-gate, three-room, two-tower corridor-style building with a construction area of nearly 700 square meters, featuring the Jiangnan residential architecture style of the Ming Dynasty.

The roof has a slightly convex curve in the middle and upturned eaves, with moon-shaped beams and columns with scroll killing, and drum-shaped plain bases that started in the Yuan Dynasty. Zheng Binghou, a Ming Dynasty scholar, once studied here, and Yang Shouchen, a scholar from Siming, once taught here. Legend has it that in the 30th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1602 AD), Yang Shouchen, a scholar from Ningbo, traveled to Anshan Academy in Changlian Village, attracted by its beautiful scenery, and stayed to teach.

In the 32nd year of the Wanli era, Yang Shouchen went to the capital to take the imperial examination and became the top scholar. The villagers were overjoyed, hanging red lanterns, posting couplets, and setting off firecrackers, creating a festive atmosphere. Later, even after serving in the capital, he maintained contact with his fellow villagers from Changlian.

Yuedong Family Style: ‘Yuedong Family Style’ refers to the family style of Wang Yue Dong. ‘Yue Dong’ is a courtesy name, with the original name Wang Zi and the courtesy name Jie Weng. Yue Dong is his pseudonym, and he was from Hushan, Suichang. He once served as the county magistrate of Jinxi (now part of Fuzhou City, Jiangxi). During the Xiangxing period of the Song Dynasty, he abandoned his official position to live in seclusion, forming a poetry society to pass the time and writing two volumes of ‘Shui Dong Poetry Collection’.

Tang Xianzu, during his tenure in Suichang, wrote a preface for his poetry collection, admiring Yue Dong’s character and poetry. He also inscribed the words ‘A Person in the Woods’ for him. In 2003, Yuedong Family Style was moved from the old city of Suichang County to Anshan Academy for restoration. The entire building has white walls and black tiles, with a simple and elegant style, adjacent to Anshan Academy.

Tea-serving Pavilion: Located on the west side of the reservoir on the hillside leading to Anshan Academy, this pavilion is a wooden rest pavilion with a hip roof. The construction of this pavilion is said to originate from the custom of ‘fighting tea’, hence it is also known as the Fighting Tea Pavilion. Changlian villagers carry on the tradition of kindness and generosity in rural Suichang, using local specialty tea to entertain visitors and performing tea ceremonies.

This pavilion is also a place for tourists to rest and enjoy the panoramic view of Changlian. Nine-bend Lianxi River: Lianxi River originates from Suzhuangtan in Matou. It passes through Yunfeng Town and flows into Jinxi River at Zhuangshan. It has a long history. Changlian Village is thus named. The two mountains standing at the water outlet, one is like a huge python lying in the water and is called ‘Snake Mountain’; while the other is like a divine turtle looking up and gazing, and is called ‘Turtle Mountain’.

Turtle Mountain and Snake Mountain together are like a large dam. The gap in the middle is the gate of the dam, so it is called the Guisheba water outlet. According to legend, the True Martial Emperor stands in the middle, and the boy and girl attendants stand on both sides. The left foot steps on the snake and the right foot steps on the turtle. The Guisheba water outlet is magnificent. Since the construction of the snake-shaped weir dam at Jiaodui and the praying to the four princes, the weir dam has never been washed away by floods.

It not only guards the water outlet of Changlian Village, but also guards the water outlet of the entire eastern countryside of Suichang. Lianxi River flows to Qianxiajing and turns west. When it reaches Buxiantan, it turns south again. The two heads of the snake and the turtle are inserted in the middle of the two meandering flows, which is a wonder. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on the day.
