The London Symphony Orchestra, established in 1904, is the oldest existing orchestra in London and represents the highest level of performance in the UK. Its origins can be traced back to the Queen’s Hall Orchestra founded in 1895. In 1904, about half of the musicians from this ensemble formed a new orchestra, with Hans Richter appointed as the chief conductor.
