Anyuan is known as the cradle of the Chinese workers’ movement, the birthplace of modern Chinese industry, and the origin and main outbreak area of the Autumn Harvest Uprising on the Hunan-Jiangxi border. The Anyuan Road and Mine Workers’ Movement Memorial Hall is a specialized museum established in 1956 to collect and protect cultural relics of the Anyuan workers’ movement, and to study and promote the history of the revolutionary struggle in Anyuan.


The exhibition building was constructed in 1968. The museum area covers 100,000 square meters, with a building area of 21,341 square meters and an exhibition area of 3,567 square meters (including 3,245 square meters for the exhibition hall and 322 square meters for the Anyuan Workers’ Movement Period Integrity Construction Exhibition Hall). The museum currently has more than 5,000 pieces of cultural relics and materials, including 61 first-grade cultural relics, 67 second-grade cultural relics, and 2,050 third-grade cultural relics; it is responsible for the protection and promotion of 14 cultural relics protection units, including 4 national key cultural relics protection units, 8 provincial cultural relics protection units, 1 municipal cultural relics protection unit, and 1 district-level cultural relics protection unit.


It also has two exhibition halls: the Anyuan Workers’ Movement Period Integrity Construction Exhibition Hall and the Exhibition Hall of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China’s Revolutionary Activities in Anyuan. Since its establishment, the museum has received more than 50 million visitors from home and abroad, including more than 2 million foreign guests and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan from over 100 countries and regions.


On November 5, 2007, the museum began free admission and has since received nearly 12 million visitors, with nearly 1.2 million visitors in 2018. The Anyuan Road and Mine Workers’ Movement Memorial Hall covers an area of 100,000 square meters and is responsible for the protection and promotion of 23 immovable cultural relics protection units, including 6 national key cultural relics protection units, 11 provincial cultural relics protection units, 1 municipal cultural relics protection unit, and 2 specialized exhibition halls: the Anyuan Workers’ Movement Period Integrity Construction Exhibition Hall and the Exhibition Hall of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China’s Revolutionary Activities in Anyuan.


The museum area is divided into three squares (upper, middle, and lower) and four areas (office area, leisure area, visiting area, and ecological area). On both sides of the eight steps of the museum, there are neatly planted dragon cypresses; the left and right sides of the upper square are planted with towering cedars, while the ecological forest area behind the mountain is mainly composed of camphor trees, making the museum picturesque throughout the four seasons.

The opening hours are all year round from Tuesday to Sunday 09:00-17:00; the museum is closed on Mondays all year round; during the Spring Festival, it is open from 09:00-17:00, from Tuesday to Sunday in summer 09:00-17:30 (last entry at 17:00), and in winter 09:00-17:00 (last entry at 16:30); the museum is closed on Mondays. Service facilities include guided tours at scheduled times: 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM.
