Avalokitesvara Sacred Realm is located within the Lianhua Mountain Scenic Area in Shi Lou Town, Panyu District. Upon entering the sacred realm, one is greeted by a straight and broad pilgrim avenue that stretches from under the Lianhua Pagoda to the hillside facing the Lion Sea, with trees neatly aligned on both sides, forming an impressive array.
At the end of this avenue lies a square paved with bluestone, at the center of which stands the majestic figure of the Avalokitesvara, with a benevolent and kind expression, and radiant golden light, towering on a two-tiered lotus throne. Looking up, with the wind blowing and clouds drifting, it seems as if the Bodhisattva is riding the clouds and mists, draped in a cloak of rosy clouds.
The Avalokitesvara statue was completed on October 23, 1994, standing at a height of 40.88 meters, made from 120 tons of bronze, with an exterior gilded with 180 taels of pure gold. Facing the vast expanse of the Lion Sea, the name ‘Avalokitesvara of the Sea’ is derived from this. From the square, looking up at the Buddha statue, the Avalokitesvara’s solemn and dignified appearance, with a benevolent and kind face, holding a golden bottle and sprinkling holy water with his fingers, is a sight to behold.
Opening times are all year round, with full-day access.
