Bada Guan refers to more than a dozen interlaced roads in the southern part of Qingdao city, most of which are named after well-known passes in China. This area boasts a tranquil environment, with peach blossoms in spring, crape myrtles in summer, and ginkgo and maple trees lining the roads in autumn. It is also home to many villas in various international styles, making it a popular destination for photography. Here, you can visit the European castle-style ‘Huashi Building’, climb to the top to overlook the sea, or admire the Japanese-style ‘Marshal’s Building’ once inhabited by a founding marshal, and the Danish building ‘Princess Building’, which is associated with a beautiful love story. These classic villas make you feel as if you are in a corner of Europe. Heading south from here, you can reach the beach, which is the fine-sand and clear-water Second Bathing Beach, a great place for swimming in the summer. The beach and Bada Guan complement each other, forming the typical ‘red tiles, green trees, blue sea, and clear sky’ landscape of Qingdao, making it a must-experience place in the city. The name ‘Bada Guan’ originally referred to eight roads named after famous passes in China (Shaoguan Road, Ningwu Pass Road, Zijing Pass Road, Wusheng Pass Road, Jiayuguan Road, Zhengyang Pass Road, Juyong Pass Road, Shanhaiguan Road), but later became a general term that also included the added Hanguk Pass Road, Linhuai Pass Road, as well as Rongcheng Road, Zhengyang Pass First Branch Road, Zhengyang Pass Second Branch Road, Zhengyang Pass Third Branch Road, and Yellow Sea Road, forming the neighborhood. The villa group in Bada Guan currently has more than three hundred villas, mostly built by politicians and merchants from China and abroad in the early 20th century. Today, they serve as convalescent homes for units and government agencies, and some are private catering, beauty, and fitness shops. The ‘Huashi Building’ is a typical architectural style here, and other well-known buildings include the ‘Marshal’s Building’, ‘Princess Building’, Bada Guan Small Auditorium, VIP Building, and Fishing Platform. Appreciating the flora, Bada Guan’s streets are planted with various types of trees, each forming a unique scene: peach blossoms bloom on Shaoguan Road in spring, crape myrtles flourish on Zhengyang Pass Road in summer, and the five-angled maples on Jiayuguan Road are particularly beautiful in autumn, while the rows of cedars on Zijing Pass Road remain evergreen throughout the seasons. Additionally, there are plane trees on Shanhaiguan Road, ginkgo on Juyong Pass Road, begonias on Ningwu Pass Road, and cypresses on Linhuai Pass Road. Opening hours are all year round, open all day, ticket sales for Princess Building, Butterfly Building, and Spanish Style Pavilion are adjusted to: 8:30–15:00, and entry is stopped at 16:30. Service facilities include restaurants located near the villa area with prominent signs.
