Baihe Gorge Scenic Area

Baihe Pine (Rock): Located at the mouth of Baihe Gorge. The rock is hammer-shaped, approximately 20 meters high, standing by the water, resembling a solitary fisherman in the snow, as described in the phrase ‘[fishing alone in the cold river snow]’. On top of the rock grows an evergreen pine, corresponding to another pine of the same age beside it.
Baihe Ferry: Situated at the confluence of Sancha Creek and Siqian Creek, at the northwestern end of Feiyun Lake, at the mouth of Baihe Gorge. Legend has it that in ancient times, when floods raged and waves surged, all living beings suffered. At that time, Taibai Jinxing, riding a white crane, traveled the world. One day, he arrived at the source of Feiyun River and saw a vast expanse of whiteness, where even birds and beasts had little room to stand, and they all flew around the immortal’s white crane, hoping for survival.

The immortal, moved by compassion, petitioned the Jade Emperor, commanding the dragon kings of the four seas to recede the waters by ninety-nine zhang and nine chi, allowing the mountains, rivers, fields, and all things to reappear, and all creatures to revive. Due to the abundant water source of the Feiyun River, the place where the white crane immortal had traveled—the confluence of the two creeks—remained very broad.

For the convenience of transportation, people set up a ferry here, called the White Crane Immortal Ferry, or simply Baihe Ferry. There is also a legend that the ferry boat was transformed from the silver bean shells that the white crane immortal casually picked from the silver bean tree and threw into the river.
