Baishangzu Scenic Area is located in Qingyuan County, with its main peak, Baishanzu, being the second highest peak in Zhejiang Province, standing at an elevation of 1856.7 meters, and is known as the ‘Ancestor of Hundred Mountains’. It is also the source of the Oujiang, Minjiang, and Fuanjiang rivers, hence the term ‘Source of Three Rivers’. The area has been a habitat for the South China Tiger and is home to the world’s remaining three Baishanzu firs. The sea of clouds and forests at sunrise are truly spectacular. Compared to other famous mountains in Zhejiang, Baishanzu is not as well-known, making it a scenic yet less crowded destination. In the past, visitors could choose either a one-day or two-day tour of Baishanzu Scenic Area, spending a night at the mountain’s protection station and summiting the next day to watch the sunrise. However, in recent years, the area from the protection station to the summit has been closed to the public. Visitors can now only explore the developed section from Che Gen Village to Baishanzu Protection Station, making sunrise viewing a thing of the past. Nevertheless, this developed section is well-constructed, featuring excellent walking trails, newly built Qingyuan-style covered bridges, a Baishanzu Nature Museum, and intricate designs like mazes. Countless waterfalls along the way provide shade, and the fragrance of the mountain forests makes the journey up the mountain much more comfortable. For a more effortless ascent, you can take an electric shuttle bus directly to Qingfeng Corridor near the protection station (around 30 yuan), then climb a bit further to see the rare Baishanzu firs, and follow the walking trails down the mountain. However, taking the shuttle bus round trip is not recommended, as you would miss the lush waterfalls and forest landscapes in the mountains. Che Gen Village at the entrance of the scenic area has a concentration of hotels and restaurants. A better option is the Shengfa Hotel, with standard rooms priced around 200 yuan, while other hotels and farmhouses offer standard rooms at around 100 yuan. The opening hours are from May 1st to October 7th, 08:00-17:00; and from October 8th to April 30th, 08:30-16:30.
