Opposite Bao Lian Zen Temple stands the world-renowned Tian Tan Buddha, one of the iconic landmarks of Lantau Island. This bronze seated Buddha statue has a plump and graceful face, with ears reaching the shoulders, and the right hand displaying the ‘gesture of fearlessness’, symbolizing the Buddha’s desire to save all beings. To pay homage to the Buddha, one must climb 268 stone steps to reach the statue. The Buddha’s solemn and peaceful demeanor, combined with the picturesque surroundings, offers a tranquil and refreshing experience, perfect for contemplation and relaxation.
In the memorial hall at the base of the Buddha, the relics of the Buddha are enshrined, and interested visitors can purchase tickets for a visit. The temple is open all year round from 9:00 to 18:00, and it offers accessibility services with a barrier-free entrance.
