Apart from the three major temples, Putuo Mountain also houses numerous smaller temples, commonly referred to as hermitages, built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Bao Yue An Temple is located at the foot of Xiangfeng Peak, in the Tea Mountain West Stream, and was restored by the monk Xiangyuan during the Qing Guangxu period. Since 1950, it has been abandoned with no monks residing there, and has been adapted for use by local farmers. The temple is open to visitors from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, all year round.
