Baotu Spring Park is located in the bustling heart of Jinan City, adjacent to Qianfo Mountain to the south, backed by the scenic Daming Lake to the north, and connected to Quancheng Square to the east. It is a distinctive garden themed around spring water, with Baotu Spring at its core, acclaimed as the ‘First Spring under Heaven’. Baotu Spring, leading among Jinan’s ‘Seventy-Two Famous Springs’, has a history of over 2000 years and has been featured in numerous literary works, notably in Lao She’s essay ‘Baotu Spring’.
Visitors flock to witness the magnificent sight of the three springs erupting in splendor. The Baotu Spring is the park’s main attraction, with clear and pure waters gushing in three streams, day and night, reaching several feet high during peak water flow. Surrounding the spring are large blocks of stone, encircled by railings, allowing visitors to overlook the extraordinary spectacle of the three springs from the railing. A stone stele stands beside the spring, inscribed with ‘First Spring’ in dark green, written by Wang Zhonglin from Licheng during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. In addition to Baotu Spring, there are more than thirty other famous springs scattered nearby, such as Jin Xian Spring, Shu Yu Spring, Xi Bo Spring, Liu Xu Spring, Huang Hua Spring, Du Kang Spring, and Bai Long Spring, forming the Baotu Spring cluster. Due to the abundant local rainfall in July and August, this period is ideal for viewing the springs. Furthermore, Baotu Spring Scenic Area offers a boat ride service. After touring Baotu Spring, interested visitors can board a boat at Baotu Spring Boat Exhibition and sail through the old city of Jinan, passing by the West Gate Bridge, the East Gate of Wulongtan Park, and entering the first passenger ship lock in Jinan’s history – Wulongtan Ship Lock, where one can experience a drop of over 2 meters. Sitting on the east side of the boat, one can view the relief of ‘Jinan Eight Scenic Spots’. Along the way, the banks are lined with many aquatic plants, and the river water is crystal clear.
