Baotuo Zen Temple is situated atop the Zhaobao Mountain, with a construction area of 360 square meters and 27 monk’s quarters. The temple was originally built from 847 to 859 AD (during the Tang Dynasty) at Mei Cen Mountain, known today as Putuo Mountain, in the Purple Bamboo Forest. In 1557 AD (during the Ming Dynasty’s Jiajing period), the temple was relocated to its current location. The temple complex is divided into the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Arhat Hall, and the Yuantongbao Hall, and also includes a bell tower and monk’s quarters.
