Baqi Cave

Baqi Cave is located in Mentougou District, Beijing, just 500 meters away from the famous Tanzhe Temple. Known for its ancient and profound depth, as well as its distinctive ‘8’ shaped folds and eight wonders, it is acclaimed as a ‘miracle of nature and a divine cave’.

Baqi Cave consists of three main halls, with 28 scenic spots along the way, perfectly aligning with the ancient astronomers’ concept of ‘three handles and twenty-eight constellations’. The three caves are named ‘Hall of Leisure’, ‘Hall of Ultimate Joy’, and ‘Hall of the Universe’, each with its unique characteristics: the Hall of Leisure is grand, the Hall of Ultimate Joy is ethereal, and the Hall of the Universe is spacious.

The eight wonders of Baqi Cave include the ‘8’ shaped folds, the dragon in the sky, perilous cliffs, front dragon and rear tiger, the divine pot, Ji Gong, Longtan, and the Chinese Olympics. Most of these eight wonders can be found correspondingly within the Tanzhe Temple outside the cave. Particularly, the stone pot is strikingly similar in size to the bronze pot in Tanzhe Temple.

The clear and transparent deep pool at the bottom of the cave, with its winding waterways, also corresponds to the name ‘Tanzhe Temple’. On the stone wall above the pool, there are traditional Chinese characters for ‘China’, and the patterns on the adjacent rocks are smooth, resembling ancient murals.

The temperature inside Baqi Cave is consistently maintained between 13-16 degrees Celsius, making it warm in winter and cool in summer, with a year-round gentle flow of water, suitable for visitors in all seasons. The cave is open all year round from 08:30 to 17:30.
