Bawu Gorge is the second gorge of the Lesser Three Gorges. It starts from Dongpingba and ends at Taipingtan, with a total length of 10 kilometers. It is named after the tributary Bawu River in the gorge. It is also called Tieguan Gorge and Guanyin Gorge. In the gorge, strange peaks protrude, grotesque rocks are jagged, and the green flow flows quietly. The stalactite shapes that resemble people, things, and beasts are vivid and are natural sculpture treasures in the gorge. On the stone wall engraved with ‘Bawu Gorge’ on the west bank of the gorge mouth, there is a dark brown stone relief similar to a turtle embedded in it. This is exactly the beach mouth, so it is named Turtle Beach. From Turtle Beach to Shuanglong, it is ten kilometers long. The mountains are high and the valleys are deep, the clouds and mist are hazy, stalactites are densely distributed, with countless strange shapes, jagged rocks, and winding peaks. There seems to be no way out when the stones appear, but there is another world when turning a corner. It is known as ‘Strange indeed, Bawu Gorge’. What attracts tourists in Bawu Gorge are the hanging coffins. According to research, the burial of hanging coffins began in the Western Zhou Dynasty and ended in the Ming Dynasty. According to local folk customs, the higher the predecessors are buried, the more filial they are. Some hanging coffins have been separated by more than two thousand years, but they are still intact, which is rare at home and abroad. Open all year round and open all day. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
