The Grand View Garden is located in the southwest corner within the Second Ring Road of Beijing. It is a garden built in imitation of the descriptions in the classic masterpiece ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’. It is also the shooting location of the 1987 CCTV version of the TV series ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’. Tourists can come here to find the scenes in the drama, understand Red Chamber culture, and also enjoy the beautiful scenery in the garden.
The area of the Grand View Garden is not large, with a length and width of about 300 meters. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to stroll around the garden. The scenery in the garden is very elegant, with the style of a large courtyard in the south of the Yangtze River. Pavilions, terraces, towers, and small bridges over flowing water make people feel relaxed and happy when walking among them. Tourists can also pay to take pictures in ancient costumes, which is very interesting. In many buildings in the garden, there are wax figures of characters from the ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’, imitating their living scenes. There is also a cultural and artistic exhibition in the Wenlou, where one can systematically understand the culture of the ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’. In addition to visiting the scenery and understanding the culture, the Grand View Garden also has many activities every year. The Red Chamber temple fair from the first to the fifth day of the first lunar month every year is very grand. Many theme programs such as the imperial concubine’s visit to her parents, the marriage of Baoyu and Daiyu, and Jia Mu’s birthday celebration will be staged every day. There are also folk arts such as sugar figures and facial makeup on display, which is very lively. In addition, the evening activities in summer (from May to October) will include Red Chamber cultural and artistic performances, shadow puppetry performances, large-scale musical fountain performances, and the laser water curtain film ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’, which are also worth experiencing.
