What is it like to always be on the road? Thoughts are free, the mood is relaxed, as if there is always a thread pulling, always in a safe zone that belongs to oneself. What kind of mood is it to sing while always on the road? As the annual tour is about to begin, Fengzi starts to ponder the significance of this, whether he is still staying in that so-called safe zone, and what exactly is that safe zone.
01 You Just Liked the Sea Breeze That Night
Not long ago, Fengzi officially released his new single ‘Bride’ that he had completed early on. The clear melody, pure folk music, and the rich sincerity in the story all become foils for idealism. He is a creator who is good at and used to expressing himself in music, labeling himself with ‘wandering’, actually just because of his freedom and cheerfulness like the wind. Every year, Fengzi sets out, and the determination at the start is always due to creation, possibly to reach other domains beyond the scenes of life, or to collect some fragments of inspiration for writing and creating songs. Walking, watching, and singing along the way always keeps his music fresh, allowing for a lively and vibrant presentation. In 2024, he continues with this unique freedom of Fengzi, preparing to set off to sing in various places. Thus, the annual Fengzi once-a-year tour, which is officially announced today, is swaying the sail on the wandering sea, chasing new light spots. The theme of this tour is ‘You Just Liked the Sea Breeze That Night’. The planned itinerary of the tour will circle around most of the winter, starting in Harbin in early winter in mid-October, and is planned to end in Kunming, which is spring-like all year round.Throughout October, November, and December, Fengzi eagerly anticipates embarking on a journey that follows a meticulously crafted map. He begins in the cities of the three northeastern provinces, then moves southward and southwestward, carrying his music and fulfilling his annual promise to meet with fans in various cities. This is a once-a-year event that he looks forward to.
In Search of Meaning
As the annual tour commences, Fengzi finds himself contemplating the significance of this endeavor he so ardently pursues. The question remains unresolved, and he ponders it repeatedly. It is not until one day, while strolling alone through a forest, that he is struck by a sudden thought. He recalls the wandering poet Francisco from the book “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” a nearly two-hundred-year-old itinerant artist who frequently visited Macondo to perform his self-composed ballads. Francisco imbued these ballads with his own emotions and transformed the diverse experiences from his travels into melodies, journeying from Macondo to the edge of the Great Swamp without pause.
Fengzi likens himself to Francesco, believing that the essence of his own touring might be similar—to explore different locales, encounter friends both new and old who have been listening to his music for years. They gather in the audience, their sincerity and passion evident as they await the stories of Fengzi’s travels and the new tales he brings to life through song during their long-awaited reunion.
In this context, it seems that the initial question has found its most fitting response. “Always on the road, singing, always in a self-safe zone,” he muses. “What is this safe zone?” It is when the stage lights dim, the music begins, and Fengzi, either cradling a guitar or standing before the microphone, is bathed in the audience’s gaze. This spotlight, this zone of light, is his sanctuary, his safe zone.In 2024, Fengzi’s tour—titled ‘You Just Liked the Sea Breeze That Night’—is about to begin. Fengzi’s new stories are also continuing. He is working on his brand-new album, which is already halfway done. The theme of this tour is also from a song in the upcoming album. We can look forward to it. In addition, Fengzi is still writing new stories in his life, including the invisible old singer, a field trip at three in the morning, and a Nepalese village under the snow-capped mountains. All of these have been brought into his creation, becoming material and creating melodies. In music, he doesn’t stop; outside of music, he continues to wander with his singing, always ready to depart. Fengzi knows that the state he truly wants to achieve is ‘singing freely.’ Full article Open date: November 8th, Friday, show starts at 20:00. The exact duration of the performance is subject to the live event.
