Living together in time, overlapping moments of love, enduring hardships through the ages, destined to meet in the future, never retreating. Over the course of six years, each individual has experienced different landscapes, strolling along the coastline, watching the sea together from dawn to dusk, feeling the passage of time amidst the ebb and flow of the tides. Everyone has their own way of responding to life, either casting oneself into the cosmos or choosing a place to settle down. Please accept this belated invitation, after a six-year hiatus, we look forward to meeting you again, to watch the sea together. After listening to the newly released EP two weeks ago, are you eager to embark on a journey to the tour’s live performances? Hello Nico’s ‘Let’s Watch the Sea Together’ tour across ten cities is about to begin! Formed in Taipei in 2013, the members of Hello Nico come from diverse backgrounds, blending pop, electronic, and rock genres. Their music is characterized by a suppressed yet indulgent sound, quietly singing about human emotions and injuries, and observing the inevitable contradictions and struggles in urban life amidst the noise of guitar feedback and synthesized sounds. Since their formation in 2013, the band has carried an astonishing creative energy, sparking discussions online with mature arrangements and abundant compositions. Their representative works ‘Desolation’ and ‘Flower’ have won the top of the charts for several weeks. At the end of 2013, they were selected as one of Taiwan’s ‘Top Ten New Bands’ and have been widely hailed as Taiwan’s most attention-grabbing supernova band. In 2014, they released their first EP ‘Floating City’, which received strong recommendations from well-known musicians Chen Jianqi and singer Wei Ruoxuan. With ‘Floating City’, Hello Nico won the ‘Best EP of the Year’ and ‘Top Ten Songs of the Year (Our Suffering Circus Troupe)’ at the 8th Freshmusic Awards. In 2015, they released their first album ‘Familiar Desolation’ and embarked on a tour, selling out their limited physical records at the tour venues before they were officially available in record stores. The band was later invited to perform in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, achieving unprecedented success. In the second half of the year, they held an 11-stop tour, with all four performances in the Pearl River Delta region, including Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen, as well as the Shanghai concert, selling out completely. The band then announced that they would return to Taiwan in January 2016 for four special performances across the North, Central, and South, with all performances selling out within a minute of ticket sales going public. In December 2015, Hello Nico was nominated for the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the 5th Abilu Music Awards held by the authoritative music platform Douban.
In May 2016, Hello Nico was nominated for the Best New Artist at the 27th Golden Melody Awards for their album ‘Familiar Desolation’ and won the Best New Group at the 9th Freshmusic Awards. In July 2016, they released the EP ‘Close Your Eyes’ and held three thousand-person concerts in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, all of which sold out quickly. Subsequently, the band embarked on a twelve-stop tour in mainland China and held solo concerts in Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan for the first time. In early 2017, the EP ‘Close Your Eyes’ was nominated for Best EP at the 10th Freshmusic Awards in Singapore and won the Rock Musician of the Year at the 6th Abilu Music Awards. The same year, Hello Nico was invited to perform at the renowned American music festival ‘SXSW’ and later performed at ‘TIMM Festival’ in Tokyo and was invited to the stage of ‘Clockenflap Music Festival’ in Hong Kong. In February 2018, they released a remixed single ‘You Are the Erased Scenery (tour mix)’, followed by two new singles ‘Dust of Light’ and ‘Dear Self’, and held a tour titled ‘Slowly, But Far’. In September 2024, they launched a new EP ‘Plan B: If We Return, Let’s Watch the Sea Together’. This EP encapsulates the emotional energy and growth changes of the band members over the years. It not only presents a fresh face of Hello Nico but also maintains the musical power that has captivated listeners for over a decade. As night falls and stars dot the sea, we snuggle together, quietly enjoying the tranquility and beauty. The sea breeze gently blows away the noise and fatigue of the day, leaving only inner peace and serenity. A smile at each other, no words needed, because we all understand the value of this tacit understanding and companionship. I think I still don’t have the courage to tell you directly, I am depleted, I can no longer bloom. The light you emit shines in places you can’t see, going forward, returning, searching, withdrawing. There is no place that you should be responsible for. You were born to be loved, and love itself is the cure for love’s suffering. If we return, let’s watch the sea together. The full text is open on 11/17 Sunday, with the show starting at 20:00, and the specific duration is subject to the live performance.
