Beijing Road Pedestrian Street is located in the heart of the city. Although it is smaller than Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, it marks the beginning of Guangzhou’s history. While Shangxiajiu is akin to Beijing’s Qianmen Dashilar, Beijing Road Pedestrian Street is more reminiscent of Beijing’s Wangfujing Street. When visiting Guangzhou, you can consider this as the starting point for exploring the city. It stretches from Zhongshan Fifth Road in the north to Hui Fu Road in the south, covering approximately 440 meters. This street, symbolizing the commercial heart of Guangzhou with its north-south orientation, is lined with shops and always bustling with crowds, maintaining a vibrant energy. Shopping centers include Guangbai Department Store and Tianhe City Department Store. Commerce here has flourished since the 10th century and continues to this day; you can find almost anything you need to buy. Even without the intention to shop, walking on the stone paths and exploring the ordinary alleys of the ancient streets is quite interesting. This ‘Three Dynasties Ancient Road’ displays Song Dynasty grey bricks, Ming and Qing Dynasty yellow sandstone slabs, as well as red and yellow sandstone and macadam slabs. Moreover, the ‘treasure of the street’ is the thousand-year-old road site that quietly lies under a tempered glass cover. This undoubtedly adds a touch of brilliance to Beijing Road, which combines classical ambiance with a commercial center. Additionally, there are various specialty snacks available, such as cuttlefish balls, squid, radish beef brisket, and cotton candy. However, for a more diverse selection of food, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is more suitable. Open all year round, accessible 24/7.
