The Biwako Biennale, an international art festival, was born in 2001 on the shore of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. Shiga Prefecture, where Lake Biwa is located, is adjacent to Kyoto and is at the geographical center of Japan. In 2000, when the BIWAKO Biennale began, there were many uninhabited buildings in the city, presenting a desolate scene as if time had stood still. Now these long-abandoned buildings have been cleaned and restored and used as exhibition venues. While these buildings are rejuvenated, they shine together with artworks and attract many audiences. After more than 20 years, these venue buildings have now been transformed into cafes, boutiques, and inns, and the city has regained its vitality. In order to welcome the 11th International Art Festival Biwako Biennale in 2025, it is decided to hold a preheating exhibition in Shanghai in cooperation with Huacui Contemporary Art Museum. Shanghai, as a city in China with rich artistic resources, a strong cultural atmosphere, and extensive international influence. Choosing Shanghai as the preview location aims to promote artistic exchanges between China and Japan and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries. It is hoped that through this preheating exhibition, more Chinese friends will be attracted to visit the exhibition and jointly feel the charm and artistic power of the Biwako Biennale. This exhibition is completed by the handover of three artists. Through art forms such as photography, installations, and paintings, works centered around the theme of “Flux” are created, expressing the changes of all things. Even if one regards oneself as an individual and recognizes it, due to the change of cells, there is never a moment of constancy. All things in the world are in a state of change. The vast universe is currently accelerating away from us and gradually moving farther and farther away. Everything born in the world will eventually come to an end one day. Modern physics has confirmed that the void between the stars is filled with dark matter. Unobservable does not mean non-existent, and observable does not mean it exists. Perhaps, the theme of all things flowing in the constantly changing waves. The opening hours of the full text are from September 21st to December 8th, subject to the site.
