Black Valley, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, is a forest park and geological park recognized as a famous Chinese leisure mountain, a green low-carbon tourist destination, and a charming scenic spot in the Greater China region of Asia. It is also one of the ‘New Twelve Scenic Spots of Bayu’ in Chongqing and an environmental protection demonstration area. Located at the coordinates 106°58’26” East longitude and 28°51’46” North latitude, it is situated in the transition zone from the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to the Sichuan Basin, in the remaining ridges of the Dalou Mountains, within the territory of Heishan Town in Wansheng Economic and Technological Development Zone, Chongqing, 63 kilometers away from the urban area of Chongqing.
The scenic area covers an area of 100 square kilometers, with a height difference of 1200 meters between the mountaintop and the valley bottom, and a canyon length of 13 kilometers, with slopes on both sides of the river valley at 70-80 degrees. Black Valley belongs to the subtropical humid monsoon climate zone of the Sichuan Basin, with a mild climate, abundant rainfall, distinct seasons, a long frost-free period, warm winters, early springs, frequent rains in early summer, hot summers with droughts, and frequent drizzles in autumn. The area has a high cloud cover and abundant sunshine in winter, also featuring significant regional differences in mountain climate. The average annual temperature is 18.1°C, with a frost-free period of 339.2 days. The average annual rainfall is 1277 millimeters, and the average annual sunshine hours are 1101.6. The Chongqing Black Valley Scenic Area consists of two scenic spots, Black Valley and Wansheng Stone Forest, featuring steep ridges, peak forests, secluded canyons, cliffs, forests, bamboo seas, waterfalls, clear waters, caves, ancient-style plank roads, floating bridges, sea of clouds, pastoral areas, original vegetation, and rare animals and plants, each with its unique landscapes. The scenic area is mountainous and dense with forests, rarely visited by people, preserving one of the few intact subtropical and temperate natural ecosystems on Earth at the same latitude. The forest coverage rate is up to 97%, and the negative oxygen ion concentration is as high as 110,000/cm³, making it a natural oxygen bar, known as the ‘Chinese Valley of Health’. It is currently one of the best-preserved natural ecological scenic areas in the Chongqing region and is praised by experts as the ‘Yuqian Biological Gene Bank’, a unique ‘Biological Gene Bank’ of Chongqing, and the ‘Shennongjia of Southwest’.
