Sinopec’s crude oil terminal is located in the northern part of Weizhou Island. From the Weizhou passenger terminal, one can overlook this long blue marine structure, commonly referred to as the ‘Blue Bridge’. It is an abandoned onshore approach bridge, which is not only a beautiful photography spot but also a popular fishing location for the islanders.
Originally constructed by Sinopec Group, the crude oil terminal was designed to accommodate giant oil tankers. The onshore approach bridge measures 2898 meters in length, making it one of the crude oil terminals located farthest from the shore in China. However, due to approval process issues during the later stages of construction, it has never been put into operation and has now become a beautiful tourist attraction.
It is worth mentioning that the terminal was once open for visits, but due to an incident where a tourist accidentally fell from the bridge into the sea, the entrance to the terminal is now gated off, prohibiting entry. Visitors are only allowed to take photos from outside.
The terminal is open all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day. It is advised that visitors follow this rule to ensure safety and respect for the site.
