The Blue House is a tenement building in Hong Kong. It is located on Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island. Built in 1920, it has now been listed as a Grade I historic building in Hong Kong. The exteriors of Nos. 72, 72A and 74 are painted blue, hence it is called the “Blue House”. No. 74A was still privately owned before 2010 and maintained a grey exterior. The current four-storey building of the Blue House was built after demolition in the 1920s.
The ground floor is the “Hua Tuo Temple”. After the Hua Tuo Temple, it was replaced by a martial arts school opened by Lin Zu, the nephew of Huang Feihong’s disciple Lin Shirong. In the 1960s, Lin Zu’s martial arts school was changed into a medical clinic run by his son Lin Zhenxian. It is one of the few remaining tenement buildings in Hong Kong with a balcony. It will be developed as a tourist attraction. Now when you come to the Blue House, in addition to experiencing the historical details of this old house through the appearance of the building, the blue exterior, the wooden doors and windows of old shops, and the high and steep wooden staircase, you can also visit the “Wan Chai Folk Life Museum” on the first floor of the Blue House. Through themed exhibitions and some daily items collected from local residents, you can catch a glimpse of the early living culture of Hong Kong.Opening hours: Open all year round. Monday-Tuesday, Thursday-Sunday 10:00-18:00.
