In front of the site of Brahma Temple at the southeastern foot of Phoenix Mountain, there are two stone steles. They were built by Qian Hongzuo, King of Wuyue, in 965, the third year of Qiande in the Northern Song Dynasty. Each stele is octagonal. The Brahma Temple steles are entirely constructed of Taihu Lake stones. The two steles have similar forms and structures. They stand facing each other in the north and south, with a distance of 13 meters. The stele is 15.76 meters high and consists of five parts: base, stele body, eaves, short column layer and stele top. The base is carved with lotus petals, dragons and Bodhisattva statues. Above it is an octagonal stele body. One on the north side is engraved with the Buddhist Sutra of the Great Buddha’s Crown Dharani, and the one on the south side is engraved with the Sutra of the Great Compassionate Dharani for Immediate Attainment of Great Freedom. The eaves and other parts are mostly imitated wooden structure buildings. Each short column on each floor has niches carved with Buddha statues, with beautiful appearances and vivid shapes.
Opening hours: Open all year round and all day.
