The inscription ‘Sea and Sky Buddhist Realm’ is located on a boulder beside the Xiangyun Road, marking one of the iconic cliff carvings on Mount Putuo. Positioned along the mountain path from Fayu Temple to Hui Ji Temple, it is impossible to miss for those hiking uphill. The phrase ‘Sea and Sky Buddhist Realm’ aptly encapsulates the distinctive features of Mount Putuo’s scenery, making it a popular spot for tourists to take photos. This carving was written by Hou Jigao, a renowned general from the Ming Dynasty who fought against Japanese pirates, with each character measuring one meter square. Above this boulder stands a smaller stone inscribed with ‘Supporting Cloud Stone,’ accompanied by other cliff inscriptions such as ‘Cloud Sea’ and ‘A World Apart,’ which may be of interest to those who wish to delve deeper into their meanings. Reaching this point signifies that you are nearly at the summit of Buddha’s Peak Mountain, offering a perfect opportunity to pause for a photograph and a rest before continuing on to Hui Ji Temple at the mountain’s peak. For specific opening hours, please inquire at the scenic area.
