Building No. 12 on the Bund, Shanghai

Building No. 12 on the Bund, Shanghai is currently the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. When the building was completed in 1923, it was the location of the Shanghai branch of the British Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Yokohama Specie Bank of Japan once occupied this building. After the end of the Anti-Japanese War, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation returned here.

After 1949, the branches of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in China closed down. In April 1955, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government moved into the building for office. After 1995, the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank moved in. This building, listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit, can be regarded as a representative in the Bund architectural complex. It is presented in a neoclassical architectural style, advocates using simple techniques to reflect the noble temperament of the building, and strives to interpret the characteristics of the building’s form with appropriate proportions and lines.

Opening hours: Open all year round and all day. The exterior of the building is open all day. The specific internal business status is subject to the opening situation on the day.
