Cai Yuanpei’s Former Residence

Cai Yuanpei’s Former Residence is located in the historical district of the hometown of the Sage of Calligraphy, featuring a distinctive Shaoxing-style Ming and Qing Dynasties architectural complex. The current residence, including the front rooms of the main hall, the main hall itself, the side rooms on both sides, the western rooms of the seat building, and the western rooms of the seat building, have all been converted into the ‘Exhibition Hall of Cai Yuanpei’s Life and Achievements’, showcasing the life and accomplishments of Mr. Cai Yuanpei.

The main structure of the residence faces south and is built with brick and wood, consisting of three sections. The first entrance hall faces west and has a plaque inscribed by Liu Haisu, reading ‘Cai Yuanpei’s Former Residence’; the second hall and the third building both face south, with the three sections not aligned on the same axis. The front courtyard leading from the entrance hall to the hall is particularly spacious, nearly the size of a basketball court, surrounded by exceptionally high walls, creating an imposing atmosphere.

The second section, consisting of one hall and two rooms, has been converted into an exhibition room. In the center of the hall stands a half-body statue of Cai Yuanpei, exuding a scholarly demeanor. The opening hours are from January 1st to December 31st, 08:30 to 17:00.
