Canada Village is located in Chikan Town, Kaiping. Its original name is ‘Yaohua Fang’. It was built in 1923. The village is composed of eleven buildings, including five villas, four buildings, one watchtower, and one clubhouse. The five villas are Jun Lu, An Lu, Yaodongjulu, Chun Lu, and Yu Lu. The four buildings are Huade Lou, Guohao Lou, Guogen Lou, and Chunru Lou. The watchtower is Sihao Lou. Canada Village was originally named Yaohua Fang.
It was all built by overseas Chinese living in Canada. Later, it was called Canada Village. Due to the pressure of life in the early days, many villagers of Canada Village followed Mr. Guan Guonuan, an overseas Chinese living in Canada early, to seek a living in Canada. After making money, influenced by the thought of returning to one’s roots, many overseas Chinese returned to their hometowns to build houses. Earlier, there were Jun Lu, Huade Lou, An Lu, Guohao Lou, and Sihao Lou. Later, between 1933 and 1936, Yaodongjulu, Guogen Lou, Chun Lu, Yu Lu, Chunru Lou, and the clubhouse were successively built. The landmark building in the village is Sihao Lou. Sihao Lou is five stories high. The first floor is shared. The second to fourth floors belong to four families respectively. There are two rooms on each floor and no kitchen. It is understood that the purpose of building this building is for refuge and flood control. Therefore, the structure of the whole building is relatively solid. There are four blockhouses on the top floor. Each blockhouse has loopholes and can overlook the entire village from a high place. If there are invaders, they can be counterattacked. Only Jun Lu in the whole village is currently inhabited. Jun Lu is three stories high. The exterior wall of the whole building is made of blue bricks. There are two rooms and a hall on the first floor. The kitchen is behind the hall. The stairs are on the side of the kitchen. Half of the second floor is paved with wood and half is built with concrete. The whole building is solid and practical. The furniture in the house is well preserved and it is a relatively complete one in Canada Village. Open all year round and all day.
