The Capital Library is located on the east third ring road in Chaoyang District, Beijing, on the southeast side of Huawei Bridge. The library building is designed by Beijing Institute of Architectural Design. The plane is in the shape of a quarter of a fan and surrounds the square. It has a novel and beautiful shape. The building area of the library is 38,000 square meters. Block A and Block B are connected by a corridor.
The total construction area is 94,000 square meters. The whole library is fully covered by wireless network. There are 20 reading rooms (areas) and nearly 4,000 reading seats. There are also multi-functional theaters, exhibition halls, film appreciation halls and other rooms. The predecessor of the Capital Library is the Capital Book Branch, the Capital Popular Library, and the Book Reading Institute. The Capital Library we see now is the new library completed in 2001. The library has collected more than 6.5 million volumes (pieces) of various documents. The disciplines are complete and the document carriers are diverse. Especially ancient rare books, Beijing local documents, modern books and newspapers, audio-visual materials, and foreign language books and periodicals are very distinctive. In addition, the library also holds various lectures, exhibitions and reports from time to time, attracting a large number of citizens to participate. The Capital Library adopts a service method of integrating borrowing and reading, self-service and intelligence, providing readers with free borrowing of more than 1 million volumes (pieces) of open-shelf documents. The number of documents that can be borrowed ranks relatively high among public libraries in the country. Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year from 09:00 to 19:30; Closed all day on Monday throughout the year; Open from 09:00 to 12:00 on New Year’s Eve. The opening hours of each floor in the library are different. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on the day. Must-see tips: 1. Pets are prohibited from entering the library. 2. Eating and drinking are prohibited in the reading area. 3. The Capital Library serves readers aged 13 years old (inclusive) and above.
