With a history of over 100 years, the Catholic Church is located at No. 22 Tongren Road, Shamian Island, Guangzhou City (now No. 14 Shamian Street). A Virgin Mary hill was built on the south side, where the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes is placed, hence the name of the church. This church is a typical example of French Gothic architecture. Its exterior is relatively simple, without intricate decorative lines, statues, niches, etc. However, it retains the main features of Gothic churches, making it appear grand and spectacular.
At the southern end of the church, there is a bell tower with an exquisite design and a richly decorated red top that appears steep and towering. The tower’s spire is adorned with many green glazed bricks embedded in several ribs, making the entire structure look light and elegant. At the base of the tower, there is a transparent door which serves as the church’s entrance hall. The arch at the top of the door is pointed, and above the door, there is a circular rose window symbolizing heaven. The church is open all year round from Monday to Saturday from 06:00 to 17:00; on Sundays and public holidays, it is open from 06:00 to 17:30.
