Sheshan Basilica, also known as the Cathedral of St. Ignatius, is a renowned Catholic church located in Xuhui District, Shanghai, and serves as the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shanghai. Adjacent to the church are the bishop’s residence and the convent. The architectural style of the cathedral is a blend of Neoclassical and French Gothic Revival from the medieval period. Construction of the cathedral began in the 30th year of the Guangxu Emperor’s reign and was completed in September 1910. The entire building is a five-story brick and wood structure, featuring a medieval French style. The twin Gothic bell towers on either side of the main hall are pointed and reach a height of 50 meters, making the cathedral quite impressive in appearance.
