The Centennial Meiyuan Story House, also known as ‘Meiyuan’ or ‘Meiyuan Villa’, is a three-story garden-style villa built in 1929 by overseas Chinese from the Philippines. The name ‘Meiyuan’, inscribed on the gate’s plaque, is derived from the ‘mei’ character in the original owner Huang Shi Mei’s name, signifying its precious significance. This building, named after its owner, is a testament to its historical value.
‘Meiyuan’ is constructed with exquisite materials and features a unique layout and facade that complements the architectural style of the Republic of China period. The entire structure is made of clear water red bricks, and after more than eighty years, it remains in pristine condition without major repairs, making it a rare find.
