The Central to Mid-Levels Escalator connects the Central business district with the Mid-Levels residential area. Constructed in 1993 by the British colonial government to improve transportation in the Mid-Levels, the escalator system consists of 20 single-direction escalators and 3 moving walkways. It starts at Central Market and ends at Connaught Road, taking approximately 20 minutes for a one-way trip, with multiple exits along the way for convenient access.
The escalator crosses several major streets in Central, including Queen’s Road Central and Hollywood Road, and passes by attractions such as the former Central Police Station, making it a great transportation option for tourists. Additionally, it traverses through the SOHO district, known for its European-style bars, specialty tea restaurants, and souvenir pastry shops, where food enthusiasts can find satisfying culinary delights. Operating hours are from 06:00 to 10:00 and 10:30 to 00:00 all year round. From 6 am to 10 am, it operates downwards, and from 10:30 am to midnight, it operates upwards. Please refer to the official website for specific operating hours. A must-know tip: Hong Kong locals have a habit of standing on the right side of escalators, leaving the left side clear for those in a hurry.Central to Mid-Levels Escalator
