The Central Radio and TV Tower is located on the west side of West Third Ring Road in Haidian District, Beijing, adjacent to Yuyuantan Park. It is the tallest tower in Beijing and a traditional landmark of the city. Visitors can take exterior photos, ascend the tower for sightseeing, enjoy the rotating restaurant’s cuisine, and explore the history of television development. The tower’s architecture features a Chinese-style grey concrete exterior with a palace lantern-shaped tower in the middle.
Standing hundreds of meters tall, it is a spectacular sight visible from afar. At night, when illuminated, the tower resembles a giant lantern suspended in the night sky, making for beautiful exterior photography. After purchasing tickets and entering the tower, there are three main observation points. First, take a high-speed elevator to the 238-meter circular open-air observation deck, offering a panoramic view of Beijing’s urban landscape. It’s an excellent spot for photography, especially at night, capturing the city’s night scene. There are free telescopes available at the observation deck, allowing you to look out to structures like the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube on clear days, though there may be queues. Additionally, there are telescopes available for rent at approximately 30 yuan per unit with no time limit. The second attraction is the TV Culture Hall at 225 meters, showcasing the history of Chinese television through photos. The third is the Capital Impressions Exhibition Hall at 219 meters, displaying Beijing’s iconic impressions through sculptures. Both exhibition halls offer free guided tours to help visitors understand the stories behind the exhibits, making for a brief but informative visit. For a more in-depth experience, a private guide can be hired for 100 yuan per tour. Besides these attractions, there is a rotating restaurant within the tower, offering a buffet-style dining experience with a beautiful city view, adding a touch of romance to the visit. The tower also features interactive games for visitors, with the possibility of receiving souvenirs, making the experience enjoyable. The tower is open all year round from 08:30 to 18:00, and from 18:00 to 22:00 with preferential policies: Children under 1.2 meters (not included) enter for free; children between 1.2 meters (included) and 1.4 meters (included) require a child’s ticket; senior tickets are for seniors aged 60 and above; and the disabled with a disability certificate enter for free every Monday.
