Officially opened on June 1, 2018, Tanzi Stone Old Street was once a renowned water and land transportation hub in the southwestern region, boasting cultural roots such as the French Naval Barracks and the Wang Family Mansion. Legend has it that Yu the Great, who tamed the floods, married a woman from Tu Mountain. While Yu was away managing the waters, his wife turned into a stone waiting for his return, and a son, Qi, was born from the river stones, hence the name ‘Birth of a Son Stone,’ later known as Tanzi Stone.
Later, the prominent Wang family of Chongqing established the ‘Wan Mao Zheng Salt Firm’ here, attracting merchants and forming a bustling market around the Wang Family Mansion, thus giving the street its name. Tanzi Stone Old Street serves as an important passage connecting Chaotianmen Dock, starting from Nanbin Road, ascending along Tanzheng Street No. 1, up to the Tanzi Stone roundabout, with a main street length of nearly 1000 meters and a height difference of nearly 80 meters. Today, the ‘one street, two ports, four courtyards, and ten scenes’ revitalize the authentic old street and its views. Two ports – Lower Port (Customs Stone, Moon Reflecting Pool) Upper Port (Qingyun Bridge, Lichuan Firm, Hua Chao Gate, Yu Yin Pavilion, Tu Mountain Kiln, Yide Hall, Love Wall, Hundred-Year Arch)
Four courtyards – Wang Family Mansion, Xia Family Mansion, Sun Family Garden, Qingyang Palace Pavilion
