Changxi Township

The ancient town of Changxi was built in the Tang Dynasty. There are scenic spots such as Taihu Ancestral Temple, Yuangong Ancestral Temple and wooden archway, Zhou’s Ancestral Temple, Zhonglie Temple, Yao’s chastity stone archway, and the former residence of Wu Chengshi. Changxi Village faces east. The crystal-clear Changxi River serves as a screen, and behind it is the Laolong Mountain with layers of greenery as a barrier. Since the Ming Dynasty, a 3-kilometer-long ancient building complex has been built from Jing’an in the south to ‘Wuben Hall’ in the north. Inside the village, arch bridges, pavilions, ancestral temples, water inlets, academies, ancient temples and private houses can be seen everywhere. There are more than 20 ponds and even more ancient wells in the village. The private houses are row upon row, intricate and bewildering, just like a maze. Changxi has excellent ecology. So far, there are still precious tree species such as ancient ginkgo, ancient camphor, ancient pine, ancient yew, ancient oak-embracing-camphor, ancient locust tree, and ancient tree fern that are several hundred or even a thousand years old. The strange tree, oak-embracing-camphor, is 10 meters high and about 3 meters in circumference. The crowns of the oak tree and the camphor tree each account for half. The two trees have the same root and branches and snuggle up to each other. The dragon-phoenix camphor are two thousand-year-old camphor trees of different varieties with strange postures and snuggling up to each other. They are 3 meters in diameter and 38 meters high. The branches are thick and the crowns are like huge umbrellas. The thousand-year-old ginkgo tree is 42 meters high and has a trunk circumference of 8 meters. The main trunk stands tall and straight. The surrounding branches and leaves are evenly distributed and all point upward and are closely clustered without any sideways growth.
