In history, Huizhou Ancient City, which was once praised by military strategists as the Dongjiang fortress for having seven solid gate towers, was completely destroyed more than 80 years ago due to war and other reasons. On July 3, 2006, the Chaojing Gate tower, located on the south bank of the Dongjiang River and connected to the hundreds of meters of ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty, was rebuilt according to the original appearance of the north gate of Huizhou in the Ming Dynasty and stood on the bank of the Dongjiang River again, presenting itself to the citizens.
The original north gate was built in the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370 AD). In the 22nd year of Hongwu (1389 AD), the scale of the gate was expanded and renamed Chaojing Gate. The Chaojing Gate tower and city wall project is to build the embankment into an ancient-style city wall with water-blocking function and build the dry gate into an ancient-style city tower. There are rows of golden protruding button decorations on the six large red gates of the three gate openings of Chaojing Gate. Usually, these six electric flood control gates are opened day and night to become a major traffic route. However, when the water level of the Dongjiang River rises to 15 meters, the flood control gates will be closed to resist the Dongjiang flood. Open all year round and open all day.Chaojing Gate
