Visiting here at dawn, one can see a round of rising sun ‘as huge as a wheel and as red as cinnabar, suddenly rising from the bottom of the sea. With tens of thousands of rays of ochre light scattering on the sea water, the predecessors must have been dazzled by this glorious sight.’ The magnificent scenery is truly breathtaking. Now, a row of corridors is built along the sheer cliff for tourists to enjoy the sunrise. Chaoyang Cave is also a good place to listen to the sound of the tide. Later, Chaoyang Nunnery was destroyed in the war. In 1992, a Sunrise Viewing Pavilion was built on the original site. The current Chaoyang Cave scenic area includes Chaoyang Cave, Sunrise Viewing Pavilion, Lanxia Pavilion, Liuguan Pavilion, etc., and is also equipped with tea houses and shopping malls. The antique Sunrise Viewing Pavilion, also known as Chaoyang Pavilion, is located directly above Chaoyang Cave. The pavilion is 18 meters high and 12 meters in length and width on each side. Built according to the mountain terrain and bordering the East China Sea, it is extremely spectacular. The pavilion is divided into three floors: upper, middle, and lower. The upper floor has three halls for shopping, resting, and viewing the sea. The four walls are decorated with portraits of ‘Thirty-two Guanyin’, with smooth lines and vivid images. The middle and lower floors house a root carving art gallery, displaying more than a hundred root carving Buddha statues. The Tanxia Pavilion on the left platform of Chaoyang Cave is also called Chaoyang Pavilion. Close to the cliff and bordering the sea, whenever the sun rises in the east and the rosy glow shines, the scenery is extremely beautiful. It is also a good place to watch the sunrise over the East China Sea and the sunset glow. Open all year round and open 24 hours a day.
