The performance ‘Chasing Dreams – Tongliang Dragon’ combines intangible cultural heritage elements such as Tongliang dragon dance and Tongliang dragon lantern color-tying technique. In terms of presentation form, it integrates the millennium intangible cultural heritage inheritance of Tongliang and modern technology. The entire performance lasts for 60 minutes and is divided into three chapters: ‘Dream Start’, ‘Dream Dance’, and ‘Dream Fulfillment’.
It not only focuses on intangible cultural heritage inheritance but also attaches importance to modern technological innovation. Under the packaging of modern technological visual elements, dragon lanterns and dragon dances are combined with a brand-new visual interpretation, presenting a different millennium intangible cultural heritage inheritance with unique visual and spiritual connotations and aesthetics in the new era. It has participated in the National Day celebrations of New China four times, as well as major events such as the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and the 2019 Beijing World Horticultural Exposition. It has also carried out cultural exchanges in more than 30 countries and regions. In 2009 and 2019, as a representative of dragon dances, it participated in the National Day grand ceremony in Tiananmen Square twice. The Tongliang Dragon Dance Team is a ‘China National Dragon Dance Team’ awarded by the China Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association and is known as the ‘Number One Dragon in China’.
