Chen Helong’s old residence is located in Liruo Bay, Ruoshan, Wenling. It was built by Mr. Chen Helong, a fishery capitalist in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Wenling City. Chen Helong is an outstanding figure among the descendants of the Chen family in Ruoshan. His ancestors settled in Liruo, Ruoshan. When it was passed to his grandfather, ‘fishing boats were first acquired’. By the time of Chen Helong, ‘three generations managed shipping properly and became wealthy’. Then he ‘built multi-story buildings and outstanding pavilions’ and constructed a residence that was unrivaled in that time and place. Chen Helong’s old residence ‘makes a house by relying on the mountain and takes the sea as a hut’. It gathers the advantages of stone buildings in coastal fishing areas and has very considerable historical and cultural value.
