The China Numismatic Museum is a thematic museum. It is mainly engaged in the collection, research and display of coins, and undertakes the tasks of guiding and promoting coin collection, research and promoting coin culture. The exhibitions of the China Numismatic Museum include ‘Exhibition of Chinese Currency Through the Ages’, ‘Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Coinage Techniques’ and ‘Exhibition of the History of the People’s Bank of China’.
The ‘Exhibition of Chinese Currency Through the Ages’ is located on the second and third floors of the current exhibition hall of the China Numismatic Museum (formerly the Beiyang Insurance Commercial Bank). It consists of the ‘Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Currency’ and the ‘Exhibition of Modern Chinese Currency’. This is the basic exhibition of the China Numismatic Museum and is open to the public all year round. The ‘Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Coinage Techniques’ is located in the lobby on the first floor of the current exhibition hall of the China Numismatic Museum. It is a unique thematic exhibition developed by the China Numismatic Museum. The ‘Exhibition of the History of the People’s Bank of China’ is located in a hall-like building in the courtyard of the China Numismatic Museum. It is a bank history exhibition refined on the basis of the ‘Exhibition on the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Bank of China’ and is a vivid review of the history of the central bank. The China Numismatic Museum collects about 300,000 pieces of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign coins and other cultural relics related to coins. They are sorted, collected and stored according to six categories: ancient coins, gold and silver coins, banknotes, ethnic minority coins, foreign coins, coin molds and cultural relics related to coins. Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday all year round, 09:00 – 17:00; closed all day on Monday all year round; open from 09:00 to 17:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.China Numismatic Museum
