China Railway Museum Dongjiao Pavilion

The China Railway Museum is a professional railway museum. It evolved and was renamed from the Science and Technology Museum of the Ministry of Railways established in 1978. It is divided into three pavilions: the Zhengyangmen Pavilion located in Chongwenmen, the Dongjiao Pavilion in Jiuxianqiao, and the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall in the Badaling Special Zone. The Dongjiao Pavilion of the China Railway Museum is located in Jiuxianqiao, Chaoyang.


It mainly exhibits locomotives and rolling stocks. There are more than 50 in total. The manufacturing time span is from 1881 to 1993. Among them, the more famous ones are Steam Locomotive No. 0 and the meritorious locomotive named after great people. There are also various types of steam locomotives manufactured in different periods in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Russia, and Belgium.


Here, various locomotives are on display, truly telling us the development history of railways. It is like a microcosm of China’s progress from backwardness to prosperity today in the past hundred years.



Opening hours: Closed all day on Mondays throughout the year; Open from 09:00 to 16:00 from Tuesday to Friday throughout the year; Open from 09:00 to 16:30 on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year; Open from 09:00 to 16:30 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
