“Chongqing·1949” Performance

The Chongqing 1949 Grand Theatre is located in the scenic area of Ciqikou Ancient Town, Shapingba District, Chongqing City. It is a large-scale real-life theatre in Chongqing customized for the play “Chongqing 1949”. It is also currently the world’s first single indoor theater. The total construction area of the Chongqing 1949 Grand Theatre is 25,000 square meters, with a building height of 28.6 meters and can accommodate 1,497 audiences.


“Chongqing·1949” is set on the eve of the liberation of Chongqing in 1949. It tells the story of “many Communist Party members imprisoned in Zhazi Cave and Bai Mansion who endured various forms of torture but remained unyielding and would rather die than submit”. It reproduces the grand scene of liberating Chongqing and defending the city. The story is set on the day of Chongqing’s liberation. A group of revolutionary martyrs, in order to adhere to their great ideals and lofty beliefs, fell on the road to breaking through the darkness and running towards the dawn with the sound of guns liberating Chongqing.


“They sacrificed their precious lives for the Chinese people’s liberation cause”, thus, “condensing into the ‘Red Rock Spirit'”. This is a grand work that practices the requirements of literary and artistic works to be “with strength, morality, and warmth” and “strive to demonstrate the beauty of faith and the beauty of loftiness”. It is also a grand historical red drama that shoulders the era mission of “carrying forward the Red Rock Spirit and inheriting the red gene”.


“Chongqing·1949” has reinterpreted the “Red Rock classic” from a broader time and space dimension. At the same time, it shows different narrative scenes in multiple dimensions, forming a spatial artistic conception with montage interpretation methods. Let the audience receive a spiritual baptism of red culture through extremely shocking immersive experience and comprehensive and three-dimensional sensory impact.


Opening hours: Open all year round from 09:00 to 21:00. Specific performance sessions are subject to on-site announcements at the theatre.

Children: Free for those under 1.2 meters (excluding 1.2 meters).


Military personnel: Need to purchase tickets on-site at the theatre ticket window with relevant valid active duty or retired certificates. Preferential ticket supplementary note: Children under 1.2 meters (excluding 1.2 meters) are free of charge and do not occupy seats. Each adult ticket can bring at most one free child. Student tickets cannot bring free children.
