The Chongqing Jianchuan Maritime Frontier Museum is composed of the Chongqing Naval Museum and the Ship 166 Exhibition Hall. Ship 166 is a Type 051G2 (NATO code name: Luda III class) guided missile destroyer developed and built by China. It is the first modern destroyer of the People’s Navy with combat command functions. The ship started construction at Dalian Shipyard on October 31, 1987, was launched on October 18, 1990, and was delivered to the South Sea Fleet on November 21, 1991.
It was officially named ‘Zhuhai’ on June 6, 1992. It was decommissioned in Zhanjiang on August 28, 2020. On October 23, 2020, Ship 166 entered the main urban waters of Chongqing. After equipment restoration and safety inspection, it docked at the Construction Wharf in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. On June 27, 2021, it was officially opened to the public as a national defense education base. The officially unveiled Ship 166 has completed the restoration and installation of the main and secondary masts, weapons and equipment, ship body paint, gangways, guardrails, lights, electronic display screens, etc. , and the heroic posture of the heroic ship is reproduced. The two words ‘maritime frontier’ reflect Ship 166’s firm mission of guarding China’s sea areas throughout its life and tell people the profound connotations of loyalty and bravery. The open visiting areas on Ship 166 include: the first floor of the main deck including the central position, the front main gun at the bow and the rear main gun and rear anti-aircraft missiles, the kitchen, the cockpit, etc. The highlights of the visiting area of the Ship 166 exhibition include: the ship-to-ship Yingji missile in the middle, the anti-submarine torpedo launcher and the launch video materials, the 100mm stealth main gun and anti-submarine rocket launcher at the bow, and the photo shooting location at the bow. At the stern of the ship are the ship’s kitchen and rear anti-aircraft missiles. The 100mm stealth main gun can be visited and photographed.
