Foreign-related cruise ships, also known as foreign-related cruise liners or luxury cruise liners, were initially designed to meet the requirements of international government receptions, with environments that meet hotel standards. As the number of overseas Chinese returning to visit the Yangtze River increased, the Three Gorges foreign-related tourism industry entered a golden period of rapid development starting from 2005.

From 2007, the emphasis on foreign-related aspects diminished, and the proportion of mainland tourists pursuing travel quality sharply increased. Today, the ratio of foreign to domestic guests has reached four to six. The Municipal Tourism Bureau is consciously increasing the number of foreign-related cruise ships to replace domestic vessels. Due to the initial design purpose of international government receptions, Three Gorges foreign-related cruise ships have higher requirements in terms of accommodation, catering, services, entertainment arrangements, tour guide management, and private space compared to domestic cruise ships.

The rooms on foreign-related cruise ships are built to national four-star or above standards, and they are divided into standard rooms, luxury suites, and presidential suites, with 80% of customers opting for standard rooms. The dining options on foreign-related cruise ships are very rich, focusing on a combination of Chinese and Western buffets, and during the voyage, afternoon tea, bars, and coffee shops are also open normally.

The cruise is open all year round, operating 24 hours a day, and departs according to the guest’s chosen sailing period.
